Seek Worship and Fellowship: How to Find a Church Home

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking to find a church home? The experience of finding a new church home can be time-consuming. There are a number of considerations to take into account before you begin your exploration to find a church home. Ask God for his direction, research churches in your area, consider your tastes, and deeply evaluate the beliefs of the churches you’re considering.

Ask God

Prayer is powerful. There are many verses in the Bible about what God thinks about Church.

“Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:25

Church community strengthens the Christian faith and pleases God immensely. Make the request to find a church home a daily prayer request to God. Ask Him where He wants you.

How does God want me to serve?

Again, ask God how he wants you to serve His kingdom. Make a list of your strengths and talents. See where your talents match in serving your church: singing in the choir, volunteering in the nursery, traveling to areas in need on a mission trip and many more. Be aware of the gifts God gave you!

Traditional vs. Contemporary

Today, many churches are divided into a morning traditional service followed by a mid-morning contemporary service. Ask yourself if you’re more comfortable in casual or formal dress. Do you like Christian rock bands or do you prefer the classic hymn? Do you mind praising in a makeshift church in a warehouse or do you prefer a steeple with pews?

Research

There are a countless number of websites that find churches in specific areas. Visit websites such as 9marks.org, which locates churches by zip code. Before you select a church, decide what is most important to you. Make sure the house of worship you choose to visit — and possibly join — accurately teaches the Bible. Call the church and ask for more information on their beliefs. Many churches put their beliefs on their website as well.

Take a visit

After thorough research about the churches in your area, go and visit your top picks for at least a month. Ask yourself:

Am I connecting with God and other true believers at this church?

Will my relationship with Christ grow at this church?

Seek God in prayer and ask Him if He wants you to become a member at that church establishment. Compare the churches you are visiting and their pastor(s) and elders with the qualities and descriptions that God approved in the Bible.
